In honor of Veteran's Day, Great Plains would like to recognize the contributions of our own who are serving or have served in the military.

Applicants

One of the strengths of the Great Plains Family Medicine Residency Program is the quality and diversity of our residents. Since the inception of the program we have filled 90% of our positions through the Match; in the last five years we've filled 100% through the Match.

Although we generally have a strong applicant pool, we carefully examine each application. Over the years we've found that USMLE or COMLEX scores and class rank offer limited information. We learn much more about our applicants from their personal statements and letters of recommendation, as we look for life experience, evidence of good interpersonal skills, and a commitment to the ideals of family medicine. Finally, the personal interview gives us an opportunity to get a feel for the applicant as a whole person, not a collection of data.

Requirements

To be considered, applicants must:

  1. Apply through ERAS by December 31
  2. Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  3. Have graduated from medical school within the last five years
  4. Have no more than two failures on each step of USMLE, including CS
  5. All International Medical Graduates must have at least one year of supervised, clinical experience in the US and be ECFMG certified prior to the rank order list deadline

If you think our program offers what you're looking for, then check us out and get the application process started. Yes, you may be one of many strong applicants, but you may be just the one we're looking for. One thing is certain - if you don't apply, then you won't get in!

Licensing Examinations

In order to begin residency training applicants must have passed USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 2 CS (COMLEX Level 1, Level 2 CE, and Level 2 PE for osteopathic applicants). We strongly recommend that applicants take these examinations early enough for results to be available by mid-February, when we submit our rank order list.
