Living Here

Oklahoma City offers a harmonious blend of a rich western heritage with the bustling energy of a city on the move. The capital city of Oklahoma, OKC is located in the heart of the state with three major highways, a large airport, and Amtrak rail service for easy access to anywhere in the nation. The area is positioned for growth and prosperity, especially in the healthcare industry. There are 20 medical/surgical hospitals, four specialty hospitals and two federal medical installations, providing a wealth of opportunity for physicians.

In Oklahoma City, your salary stretches much further. The housing market is remarkably stable and homes cost substantially less than in other major cities. In general, OKC's overall cost of living remains relatively low, while residents enjoy a positive quality of life, including a clean environment, fine public and private schools, less traffic and a low crime rate.

Single or married with children, there's something for everyone in Oklahoma City. With more than 300 days of sun and an average temperature of 60 degrees, you'll find a variety of indoor and outdoor activities reflecting today's urban culture with an old-fashioned community feel.

"I enjoy working in Oklahoma City!"

“I came from abroad. I found nothing but kind, welcoming, hard-working, fair and honest people in Oklahoma.”

Tomás Owens MD,
Associate Program Director and faculty physician

“I always say OKC is a pretty big city with a small-town feel. I love that most days there’s hardly any traffic too! Wonderful city with a great cost of living. Nice for starting a family and when needing to repay student loans.”

Lauren Hopkins DO,
Second-year Resident

“We came to OK from Indiana in 1990 without knowing much about the area. From the very beginning we found a great environment with friendly people! The cost of living is quite reasonable and it is very family-friendly. We live in Edmond, a nice smaller city just north of OKC, with great schools, restaurants, etc. Whether you live in Edmond, Norman (home of OU), or OKC itself it’s easy to get around the whole area, including a very nice downtown area. OKC also has a great airport with easy travel just about anywhere.”
